Music Across Oregon
Since 2002, Ethos’ Music Across Oregon program has brought music workshops classes, and performances to over 34 different rural and mid-sized cities throughout the state. Currently, over 250 students per week are receiving exposure to music education through a variety of different program options.
The program began in 2002 with the purchase of a 1977 Bristol Double Decker bus which served as a mobile classroom and sleeping quarters for the outreach team. The Music Across Oregon program has brought concerts, assemblies, workshops, instrument ‘test-drives,’ music camps, and visiting Latin American musicians to over 30 rural towns in Oregon.
Rural Music Facilitator (RMF) Project Ethos’ RMF Project seeks to engage the community through music classes and performances in an attempt to stimulate ongoing support for music education offerings. Through a partnership with AmeriCorps, this project brings in-school and after-school classes, as well as performances, workshops and field trips to several communities throughout Oregon. During the 2009-2010 academic year, Ethos placed four Rural Music Facilitators in Condon, Long Creek, Fossil, and Monument, Oregon. These highly trained AmeriCorps members reside and interact within the local communities, fostering dynamic music education programs that can extend and sustain beyond the year.
Ethos is currently seeking energetic and talented individuals to serve during the 2010-2011 school-year! Please see flier for more information.
Cruzando Fronteras (Crossing Borders) In order to increase cultural understanding awareness of Oregon’s rapidly increasing Hispanic/Latino population, the Cruzando Fronteras Project brings musicians up from Latin American countries for performances and workshops around the state. Curriculum materials are sent to schools prior to assemblies to give students some background on the culture and music being presented. Since its inception, this project has brought groups from Guadalajara, Xalapa, Mexico City, and Buenos Aires.
Other Program Offerings: Residencies, Workshops, & Assemblies Depending on a community’s need, Ethos designs programming that offers classes, workshops, and/or performances for students and the community at large. Current offerings include week-long and quarterly residencies, workshops, assemblies on a variety of genres, and consultation. For a full listing of offerings and fees for the 2010-2011 school-year, please see our menu of options.
