Rural Outreach For School Sites

Ethos Music Center’s Rural Outreach Program (ROP) is seeking to partner with Oregon Schools and School Districts for the 2020-21 calendar school year.

Ethos Music Center believes that all Oregon students should have access to music education and to the benefits that music education can provide.

Ethos’ Rural Outreach Program (ROP) is a co-operational program that works with schools and school administrators to create sustainable, independent K-12 music programs. Most schools partner with ROP for 1-3 years.

The ROP is an AmeriCorps funded project that places AmeriCorps members in schools to serve as music facilitators while Schools and School Districts develop their music programs.

ROP prioritizes Partner Schools and School Districts that meet 3 or more of the following characteristics:

  • A Public School
  • Located in Rural Oregon
  • A city population under 15,000
  • 30 miles or more from an urban center with a population greater than 50,000
  • At least 25% of students qualifying for free / reduced lunch
  • County Unemployment or Underemployment rates greater than the State average
  • No music teacher on staff within the past 3 years
  • Affordable housing opportunities for potential AmeriCorps members
  • An active and supportive PTA or similar student-focused group

  • These criteria ensure that participating sites are rural and severely economically distressed communities, as demonstrated by federal and state data. Ethos’ criteria is designed to be flexible to support communities that may only meet some of these parameters, but demonstrate significant barriers to music education nonetheless.

If your school district is interested in partnering with Ethos’ Rural Outreach Program for 2020-21, please complete the following survey:
Ethos Music Center’s Rural Outreach Programs Site Application for 2020-21

The survey is 10 questions and should take 5-10 minutes to complete.

We are happy to answer any questions or provide clarification. Please contact Amorée Lovell – Director of Rural Outreach at amoree@ethos.org or call 503.283.8467 ext. 106.
