Edible Rain Garden
Ethos Music Center is tackling an ambitious rainwater management project designed to use every drop of the 151,080 gallons of stormwater generated on-site every year. Rather than allowing this valuable resource to simply be washed down the drain where it might contribute to combined sewer overflows, Ethos is planning on making the most of the water by creating a 24,000 gallon underground cistern that will hold the water for mission critical activities. If some recent grant proposals are accepted, Ethos will be able to use this water to flush toilets, irrigate edible rain gardens, and power an innovative stormwater-based fire sprinkler system.
This site will be used to track progress on the creation of Ethos’ “Edible Rain Gardens.” Food from these gardens will be used to help feed students in Ethos’ afterschool music programs and summer camps. Volunteers and our master gardner, Beatriz Santiago, will post photos and updates of our rain garden goodness.
If accepted, this project will be a combined effort by Ethos Music Center, Portland Purple Water, Parker Fire Protection, Art of Rain, and Zimmer Gunsul Frasca.
