Todd began playing saxophone at the age of 11, becoming interested in jazz at the age of 12, winning various awards and participating in symphonic, jazz and marching bands throughout his junior high and high school career. In 2001 he began studying Music Performance and Education in his hometown of Visalia, California at College of The Sequoias under the direction of Jeff Bilden. While with the program he received various jazz solo awards, and was a member of the Music Association of California Community Colleges’ Northern California Honor Band that performed during the 2004 College Band Directors National Association Western and Northwestern Division conference in Reno, Nevada. In September 2004 Todd moved to Portland, Oregon to study Music Education and Jazz Performance at Portland State University under the direction of Charles Gray, Darrell Grant, Scott Hall and Edward Higgins. During this time he worked along side David Stone, former director of bands at Jackson Middle School, instructed private music lessons, and performed in various jazz and classical ensembles through Portland State. He graduated in December 2008 with an Arts and Letters Degree, with Minors in both Jazz Studies and Music. The 2009-2010 year will be Todd’s first year with the Ethos Program.
