Sean Frenette

Guitar

Sean is a multi-instrumentalist and a genre-hopping artist/teacher/scholar. Guitar has been the tether for his wide ranging musical excursions: he’s been playing for 17 years, studying and performing Rock, Classical, Blues, Renaissance, Flamenco, Afrobeat, Bluegrass, Jazz, Brazilian, Indian and Folk musics, as well as creating new music with his own innovations—the three string and electric classical guitars.

At Ethos, Sean specializes in guitar and bass lessons- particularly in classical finger style guitar, a style he studied intensely with Eliot Fisk at New England Conservatory.  However, Sean’s teaching is as diverse as his own studies. He also studied music education at the University of Connecticut and went on to teach dozens of different instruments and styles to children in Boston public schools. Double reeds are the only family of instruments Sean has never played or taught!

Sean hopes to provide guidance for each student to follow their own musical journey, to follow their interests, develop their musical abilities and literacy, and feel confident about sharing their musical gifts at every step of their own creative journey.

Sean has studied classical Hindustani music since 2003. Though primarily a vocal student, he has also studied sitar and has transferred sitar technique to his three string guitar.  In April 2009, he had the honor of playing with one of the great masters of Indian music, tabla virtuoso Zakir Hussain, in a concert at Carnegie Hall.
