Rachel Blythe
Flute, Recorder
Rachel received her BS in Psychology and Music from the University of Oregon and her BM from Portland State University. She is currently working on her Masters degree in Education. She has been studying and performing flute since the fifth grade and also plays recorder. Rachel is a member of the Southern Washington and Oregon Kodaly Educators and has been certified through level II. She has been teaching at Ethos since 2000.
Intrigued by the connection between music and the brain and considering the transformative nature of music, Rachel strongly believes that every child should have access to music. Her belief that music must play an integral role in childhood is the foundation of her philosophy. Instrumental lessons focus on the development of concrete skills and life- long music appreciation through sight reading, technique, theory, style and expression. Her elementary music curriculum is rooted in the philosophy and teachings of Kodaly, in which children are prepared for music literacy through musical play, movement and song.
