Monica Metzler
Monica is an eclectic genre bending multi-instrumentalist and songwriter. She has been playing music for over 18 years. She sings and plays guitar, piano, ukuelele, hand percussion, bass and drum-set and is currently studying Recording Engineering at PCC-Cascade. Monica also teaches and volunteers at the Rock n’ Roll Camp for Girls in northeast Portland and has a lot of experience working with children of all ages and backgrounds.
Monica received her music minor in jazz theory from the University of Oregon and is actively pursuing the Professional Musician certificate from Portland Community College. Even though she has studied jazz and music theory, she has mostly taught herself by ear and experimentation. She makes learning music accessible and interesting to the beginner, as well as helps those with prior experience to improve their skills in different areas (songwriting/composing, soloing, chords, theory, sight-reading). She teaches a mix of styles on guitar including rock, folk, blues, funk, jazz, swing and latin.
Monica writes and performs music by herself and with her neo-swing/gypsy-punk band Moniker. She plays in Corvallis’ jazz-folkloric group Timbral Hut, sings back-up vocals in a Bob Marley Tribute band and is in the process of forming a Live “DJ” dance band in Portland. Monica is passionate about music and wants to spread the joy and community of making it… with you.
