Laurel Crafton
Laurel comes to Ethos from Chicago, Illinois. She received bachelors degrees from Chicago College of Performing Arts at Roosevelt University in both Music Education and Double Bass Performance. While in high school and college, she taught private jazz and classical bass lessons to students who ranged from elementary to high school age. In 2006, as a member of the Elgin Youth Symphony Orchestra, she traveled to Scotland to play for the Aberdeen Youth Arts Festival. For four summers, Laurel worked as a music teacher with Hands Together Heart to Art, an arts camp for children who have lost one or both parents.
Laurel is currently serving as a Rural Music Facilitator in Madras for the 2011-2012 school year where she is teaching general music at Buff Intermediate and Madras Primary. In addition to daytime classes, she teaches after school group lessons in piano, violin, drum set, electric bass, and guitar. Providing a classroom environment that is student-centered and a safe place for creativity are of highest priority. She believes that a music education has the amazing power to nurture cognitive, emotional, and imaginative development.
