Beatriz Santiago
Building Manager
Born in Uruguay, Beatriz Santiago moved to the United States when she was ten-years-old. She attended high school in Florida and later moved to Portland, Oregon in 1996 where she began volunteering around the community. She worked for the Fight against AIDS and volunteered for many local organizations including Ethos Music Center. Most notably, she was awarded (along with her son and husband) for her outstanding Cascade AIDS project in 2000. The film her family created was described as one of the top ten by former mayor of Portland Vera Katz. Her efforts as a volunteer at Ethos have led her to join the Ethos staff and serve as the organization’s building manager.
At Ethos Beatriz maintains the building and provides it with security. She enjoys working with her staff and describes the atmosphere at Ethos as “one big family.” The North Portland neighborhood serves as her “little heaven” and she is grateful for its diversity and communal energy.
