Board of Directors
Ethos’ Board of Directors are a coalesced group of community members who are committed to the organizational sustainability of Ethos Music Center. Board members come from both the corporate and nonprofit sector and reflect the diversity of the community that we serve.
Joel Barker was raised in Central Oregon, although his family was 17 months too late for him to claim native Oregonian status. He now lives in Portland where he works as a freelance marketing and technical writer. Ethos’ rural programs have a special place in his heart.
Dave Baca is the Managing Partner of Davis Wright Tremaine. Dave’s practice focuses on corporate finance and transactions, with significant experience in mergers and acquisitions. He has been lead counsel in public offerings and private placements and has served as outside general counsel to emerging companies and medium-size businesses.

Harmon P.W. Laurin (Treasurer), managing director of client services. From 1998 until joining Sigma in July 2005, Harmon was a senior vice president for Columbia Management Group in Portland, Oregon, creating and managing Columbia’s private wealth services division, with assets under management of approximately $600 million. From 1993 until 1998, he worked for Fidelity Investments in San Francisco, California, helping to develop Fidelity’s private asset management program and managing the western region sales division for that program. Prior to that he was the manager of a fee-based financial planning operation that specialized in working with owners of closely held corporations. He received a Bachelor’s degree from Stanford University in 1980. Harmon is actively involved in the community, especially for causes that work on behalf of children. He has served as president of a private school board and on the boards of Trillium Family Services and Ethos Music Center. He has also served on the advisory board for MIKE Program and continues to volunteer for other nonprofit organizations.
Desiree McCormick
Peter van der Meulen(President) is an architect with 30 years of professional experience in the design of technically complex academic and scientific research, medical, commercial, civic, and government projects. He is an Associate Partner with Zimmer Gunzel Frasca Architects and provides oversight for Ethos’ capital improvements and organizational sustainability.
Rosseria Roberts
Mark Schuessler is a manager at Perkins & Co, the largest locally-based accounting firm in Oregon. He specializes in managing audits of clients operating in the manufacturing, distribution, public facilities management, insurance, real estate, technology and investment fund industries, as well as various not-for-profit organizations. He attended high school in both Illinois and Rhode Island, and received degrees from both Miami University (Oxford, Ohio) and University of Oregon (Eugene, Oregon). Mark funded part of his higher education costs by playing drums in multiple musical groups, and he continues to both perform and record music in the Portland area. Mark is married and has a young daughter, Aria, who recently received her first drum kit.
