Laura Rebolloso is a 21st century poet and troubadour rooted in the four-hundred year old son jarocho tradition from Veracruz, Mexico. She is a founding member of the internationally acclaimed band Son de Madera and has appeared alongside luminaries such as Susanna Baca and Pablo Milanes. Now she is fronting her own group featuring musicians from Seattle and Los Angeles. Collectively represented within the group are a wealth of musical influences from rock to jazz to salsa to hip hop and, of course, son jarocho.
Rebolloso’s poetry and lyricism define the group’s sound, accompanied by acoustic piano, bass, and percussion. Rebolloso lends her stirring voice, virtuostic leona playing, and polyrhythmic zapateado, constantly taking the music in surprising new directions. Her expressiveness and charisma as a performer, combined with carefully-crafted songwriting and a healthy dose of improvisation, make for an unforgettable performance experience.
