Ethos Seeks Music Corps Teachers!

Ethos, a nonprofit organization dedicated to the promotion of music and music-based education for youth in underserved communities, is seeking part-time teachers to teach after-school music classes at Portland metro area schools from late March/early April through late May/early June, 2011, and beyond. CURRENT OPENINGS (FOR SPRING 2011):
1) Choir Teacher
Lead twice-weekly choir classes for 2nd-4th graders at an elementary school in Beaverton.
Must be available Mondays and Wednesdays 3:00-4:30pm, from April 4-May 25, 2011.
Pay rate is $35 per teaching hour, plus a $15 gas stipend per day (since the site is more than 10 miles from Ethos’ main center). Training time is also paid.
Requirements:
* Dedicated, motivated, and enthusiastic about teaching kids from diverse backgrounds
* Responsible, reliable, organized, and prompt (able to arrive 5 minutes early to every class)
* Able to pass a Portland Public Schools fingerprinting/criminal background check
* Knowledge of music theory and strong singing skills
* Experience conducting/teaching choir
* Able to accompany on piano or guitar during class (Ethos can provide an accompanist for dress rehearsals and performances)
Preferred:
* Experience teaching marimba classes to elementary school students
* Fluency in Spanish and/or Vietnamese
2) Marimba Teacher
Teach marimba ensemble classes to elementary and middle school students at two public schools in Portland.
Must be available Mondays 2:00-3:45 pm and Tuesdays 2:45-5:00 pm, from March 28-May 20, 2011. Pay rate is $35 per teaching hour. Performance and training time is also paid.
Requirements:
* Dedicated, motivated, and enthusiastic about teaching youth from diverse backgrounds
* Responsible, reliable, organized, and prompt (able to arrive 5 minutes early to every class)
* Able to pass a Portland Public Schools fingerprinting/criminal background check
* Knowledge of and experience playing traditional African marimba music
* Experience leading group classes
Preferred:
* Experience teaching marimba classes to elementary and middle school students
* Fluency in Spanish and/or Vietnamese
3) World Rhythms/Percussion Teacher
Teach world rhythms/percussion classes to 3rd-5th graders at an elementary school in East Portland.
Must be available Mondays and Wednesdays 3:00-5:30 pm, from March 28-June 1, 2011. Pay rate is $35 per music teaching hour (1.5 hours per day) and $15 per hour of snack/recess supervision (1 hour per day), plus a $15 gas stipend per day (since the site is more than 10 miles from Ethos’ main center). The total pay per teaching day at this school is $82.50. Training time is also paid.
Requirements:
* Dedicated, motivated, and enthusiastic about teaching youth from diverse backgrounds
* Responsible, reliable, organized, and prompt (able to arrive 5 minutes early to every class)
* Able to pass a Portland Public Schools fingerprinting/criminal background check
* Knowledge of and experience with bucket drumming and hand drumming
* Experience leading group classes
Preferred:
* Experience teaching drumming classes to elementary school students
* Fluency in Spanish and/or Vietnamese
4) Breakdancing Teacher
Teach breakdancing classes to 4th and 5th graders at an elementary school in Beaverton.
Must be available Mondays and Wednesdays 3:00-4:30pm, from April 4-May 25, 2011.
Pay rate is $35 per teaching hour, plus a $15 gas stipend per day (since the site is more than 10 miles from Ethos’ main center). Training time is also paid.
Requirements:
* Dedicated, motivated, and enthusiastic about teaching youth from diverse backgrounds
* Responsible, reliable, organized, and prompt (able to arrive 5 minutes early to every class)

* Experience leading group classes

Sunday March 14th Recitals & Daylight Savings

Just a friendly reminder that at 2am on Sunday February 14th we set our clocks forward one hour for Daylight Savings. So students practicing for Recital performances on Sunday have one less hour to prepare.
