Ethos at IFCC Seeks Proposals for Cultural Events
February 23, 2011
Ethos at IFCC is seeking proposals for its first artist residency program! With its newest location, Ethos provides a venue for vibrant cultural events which make use of all artistic disciplines to celebrate diversity, encourage dialogue and empower emerging artists.
During the 2011-2012 Season (September 2011 – June 2012), resident artists will challenge our community’s ways of thinking about institutional performance and gallery spaces by curating use of the entire IFCC building – the gallery, dance studio and theater. A series of cultural events throughout the year will make Ethos/IFCC a destination where the Portland community regularly interacts with and celebrates our city’s unique artistic vibe and its cultural diversity.
Individuals or group collaborations may apply to curate 2 to 4 week long cultural events that focus on the following goals:
- Celebrates and builds awareness of a specific culture through many different art mediums
- Builds community through the arts by providing high quality activities and events for all ages
- Makes use of the entire Ethos/IFCC building (art gallery, theater, dance studio)

“Ladies With the Blues” opens this weekend at Ethos/IFCC!
February 4, 2011

It’s 1938. The depression lingers on. The first integrated club, Cafe Society, is about to open in New York and the headliner is none other than “Miss Lady Day.” Hershall Norwood’s play, “Billie’s Blues – Tonight at Mama’s Jam,” separates the mythical legend from the truths of Billie Holiday’s struggles with racism, record companies and her right to be herself. She is one of the greatest jazz singers of all times. Directted by Charles Rule of CaT’s Productions.
“No More Pity Party Blues,” written and performed by award winning actress and vocalist Brenda Phillips serenades you with her melodic delivery of spoken word, jazz and blues. You will laugh and maybe even shed a bluesy tear, that’s how the blues do ya. You won’t want to miss this exciting performance. Let the music take you where it takes you and her spoken words do you like it will.
