Fall 2010 recital videos performed at Ethos HQ are now online!
December 30, 2010
I misjudged the bit rate a bit, so the video plays faster than it downloads. To work around it, find the spot with your young performer and hit pause so the video can download some. You’ll see a grey bar extend past the play head dot as the video caches on your computer. An alternate solution is to download the video by clicking on “Files and Links” down to the lower right of the video page beneath the featured videos. It should play in any flash player, but this one should do well->http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/. The videos files are rather large (aprox 200MB), and that’s why the tend to chug a bit when you stream them. Send complaints, comments and requests to patrick@ethos.org.

The Sherman Project — A Jazz Opera at Ethos/IFCC
December 9, 2010

Ethos/IFCC is happy to announce that tickets are now available for The Sherman Project!
Experience the magic of Sherman: The Opera, an incredible collaboration between award-winning trumpeter Thara Memory and former Oregonian columnist S. Renee Mitchell, that honors and celebrates Portland’s jazz legacy, which attracted countless jazz legends, among them Charlie Parker, Leona Horne, Duke Ellington and Ella Fitzgerald, to perform their East Coast music in Portland as the black population burgeoned during WWII to build war ships. North Williams Avenue, also known as Black Broadway, became an entertainment strip where jazz ruled at all hours of the day and night in at least 10 clubs. This musical production features some of the city’s best and most well-known jazz musicians, singers and theater production crew.
