Ethos seeks choir, marimba and hip hop instructors

Ethos is seeking part-time teachers to teach after-school music classes from late September/early October, 2010, through late May/early June, 2011. Ethos is an equal opportunity employer and encourages candidates from diverse backgrounds to apply.
CURRENT OPENINGS (FOR 2010-2011 SCHOOL YEAR):
1) Choir Teacher
Lead Ethos’ Intergenerational Women’s Choir (2nd grade-adult) and teach several choir classes at Portland elementary schools, including a dual-language Spanish/English school.
Classes are generally Mon-Thurs, 3-7 pm, and we currently have a total of 6 hour-long classes to offer a new teacher. Pay rate is $22-$33/hour for the intergenerational choir and $35/hour for classes at the schools. Performance and training time is also paid.
Requirements:
* Dedicated, motivated, and enthusiastic about teaching kids and adults from diverse backgrounds
* Responsible, reliable, organized, and prompt (able to arrive 5 minutes early to every class)
* Able to pass a Portland Public Schools fingerprinting/criminal background check
* Knowledge of music theory and strong singing skills
* Experience conducting/teaching choir
* Able to accompany on piano or guitar for classes at schools (Ethos can provide an accompanist for dress rehearsals and performances)
Strongly preferred:
* Good Spanish skills
2) Marimba Teacher
Teach marimba ensemble classes to elementary and middle school students in Portland.
Must be available Mon 2:00-3:00 pm and Tues 2:45-3:45 pm. Pay rate is $35/hour for classes at the schools. Performance and training time is also paid.
Requirements:
* Dedicated, motivated, and enthusiastic about teaching youth from diverse backgrounds
* Responsible, reliable, organized, and prompt (able to arrive 5 minutes early to every class)
* Able to pass a Portland Public Schools fingerprinting/criminal background check
* Knowledge of and experience playing traditional African marimba music
* Experience leading group classes
Preferred:
* Experience teaching marimba classes to elementary and middle school students
* Fluent in Spanish and/or Vietnamese
3) Hip Hop Music & Technology Teacher
Teach beatmaking and Hip Hop music & technology classes to youth at schools and community centers in Portland.
Must be available Wednesdays from 4:30-6:00 pm. The pay rate is $35 per class hour. Performance and training time is also paid.
Requirements:
* Dedicated, motivated, and enthusiastic about teaching youth from diverse backgrounds
* Responsible, reliable, organized, and prompt (able to arrive 5 minutes early to every class)
* Able to pass a Portland Public Schools fingerprinting/criminal background check
* Knowledge of a range of beatmaking software
* Experience teaching group classes
* Passion for hip hop, and ability to teach other forms of electronic music
Preferred:
* Experience teaching beatmaking to elementary, middle, and/or high school students
* Fluent in Spanish and/or Vietnamese
* DJing experience

Employees at Waggener Edstrom Worldwide help spruce up Ethos at IFCC!

Last Friday, six employees from Waggener Edstrom Worldwide helped clean every inch of the IFCC to help Ethos get ready for a busy season of new classes and performances! The building is now sparkling clean and ready for action. They also helped Ethos purchase compact flourescent light bulbs and replaced them throughout the building to help reduce energy costs. Thanks to Waggener Edstrom for lending a hand during this busy time for Ethos!

Ethos at IFCC Cleanup Party
Help us spruce up our newest building! This Friday, September 10th, will be dedicated to dusting, vacuuming, washing windows, moving furniture, and more. Bring your work gloves, and clothes that can get dirty! 9am – 2 pm.
Fall Catalog Distribution
We need one reliable volunteer with a car or a bike who can deliver our fall catalog to schools all around the North and Northeast Portland. Must be able to deliver to about 20 schools and community centers by Monday, September 14th.
Teaching Assistants for weekly music classes
Looking to get experience teaching music to kids? Work directly with one of our instructors in a small group music class. TAs are needed for piano, guitar, band, violin, hip hop, and more. Classes take place both at Ethos and in partner schools in the Portland area. Class times vary. Must be able to commit at least one hour per week, ranging from 10 weeks to the entire school year.
Rehearsal/Performance Accompanist
Duties include providing piano accompaniment during all classes, including the dress rehearsal and final performance. Must be available for all classes during Fall term (see schedule below). Ability to learn and play music in various tempi required. There is a lot of stop-and-go in these classes, thus, accompanist will need to follow along and remain alert throughout the class period.
Intro to Musical Theatre: Tuesdays 5:30 – 6:30 pm
Children’s Choir: Tuesdays 4:00 – 5:00 pm
Fall term dates: September 29th – December 1st

Students who are eligible for Financial Aid ( Free or Reduced Price Lunch) will not be affected by the price increase.

30 Min lessons $148 Full ($92 Reduced Price Lunch, $70 Free Lunch)
45 Min Lessons $222 Full ($138 Reduced Price Lunch, $105 Free Lunch)
